What Determines How Much a Paper Shopping Bag Can Carry?

There is no reliable rule such as “200gsm = X kg.”

The carrying performance of a paper shopping bag depends on the complete structure:

Paper + Bag Size + Handle + Handle Attachment + Top Reinforcement + Bottom Support + Actual Product Weight

For example, a strong cotton rope handle does not help if the paper around the handle holes tears under load.

Likewise, increasing the paper from 250gsm to 300gsm may not solve a problem caused by weak handle fixing or insufficient reinforcement.

For products with higher carrying requirements, we recommend testing the finished sample with the actual product or a realistic equivalent load before mass production.
